Counselling

This new service operates from the Centre one day per week commencing 19th February 2008.

New Counselling Service

The Bellingen Neighbourhood Centre is pleased to welcome Marilyn Wadick as our new generalist counsellor. Regardless of how capable we are, everyone experiences times of challenge, change and upheaval. Talking things through in a caring, non-judgmental and confidential environment can help enormously. By exploring the many thought feelings and meanings surrounding our experiences, counselling can help us to understand and integrate the various challenges that life presents us with. As we gain clarity about our lives we rediscover and reconnect with our inner resources and strengths. We regain confidence and belief in ourselves and can begin to build more satisfying lives. In short, counselling helps us to help ourselves.

Our Generalist Counselling service is offered every Tuesday morning from 10.15am. If you would like to see our counsellor please call us on: 6655 1239 or drop in to make an appointment.

Counsellor

Our Counsellor provides a space where you can feel comfortable to explore an issue or problem without judgement or pressure. In times of crisis or upheaval it helps to talk to someone who is unbiased. People come to counselling for stress, relaionship problems, low confidence, anxiety, depression, family problems and many other reasons.

How can counselling help me?

Counselling can allow you to:

  • Talk about what has happened
  • Understand what you are feeling
  • Find ways to cope
  • Help you gain the supports you need

What happens in counselling?

In counselling, your counsellor should:

  • Introduce themselves to you
  • Listen carefully and respect your point of view
  • Not give advice
  • Help you to find your own solutions
  • Discuss with you whether you need future counselling and a plan for this

Are the counsellors trained?

YES! Our counsellors have tertiary qualifications in counselling and a variety of experience. Bellingen Neighbourhood Centre checks their qualification and reference prior to the counsellors starting. In some cases the counsellors may work together to provide you with the best possible assistance. How long does the counselling take? This varies for each person. Usually an appointment will last around 50 minutes and we can make appointments one week apart. The counsellor will make an assessment during each appointment as to whether they feel future counselling is required.
