No Interest Loans Scheme
The Bellingen Neighbourhood Centre No Interest Loans Scheme (BNC NILS®) is accredited by Good Shepherd Youth and Family Services and based on their successful model, its aim is to provide low income earners with flexible and affordable credit in order to purchase basic household goods and appliances.
BNC NILS® initial capital for loans has been provided under a grant from the Local Area Assistance Scheme. Once initial capital has been loaned further loans are generated from repayments coming in from existing loans.
To be eligible you must have:

Low income

Lived or worked in the 2453, 2454 or 2455 postcode area for at least 6 months

Capacity to repay the loan within 12 months
BNC NILS® lends money for:

Appliances
-
Essential household goods

Medical equipment
BNC NILS® cannot lend money for:

Items for which other forms of assistance may be available (such as bond money)

Debt repayment or consolidation

Second-hand goods

Basic living expenses; such as food, gas, electricity and telephone bills, rent arrears and motor vehicle expenses
BNC NILS® can lend:
- Up to $800
What is the term of the loan?
- Usually 12 months, depending on the borrower’s capacity to repay.
