Youth Week 2009

National Youth Week will take place this year from 28 March to 5 April and is set to go off, with the theme ‘Make a Move’.
This year BSYS will be organising the annual National Youth Week Art Exhibition and Competition which will enable local artists to have their work exhibited locally and compete for cash prizes. Now is the time for young people (12 – 24) living in the Bellingen and Seaboard areas of the Bellingen Shire to start considering creating something for the competition and exhibition. There are multiple categories which include painting, drawing, 3D/sculpture, fashion design/textiles/jewellery, photography and creative writing. The exhibition launch will take place on Monday 30th March.
The annual National Youth Week ‘Wired’ concert will take place on the Morgo Street stage in Urunga on Sunday 5th April from 12 noon. This is a great opportunity for local young people to perform in front of a supportive audience. Bands, singers, dancers who would like the opportunity to perform in some way then we would like to hear from you.
Other activities planned for this years National Youth Week celebrations include a street stall, a feature profiling some of the many wonderful young people from our community, a craft group high tea and a campaign for Youth Homelessness Matters day on the 1st April.
BSYS would like to hear from other youth groups to see if they would be interested in organising an activity of their own for National Youth Week. We would be happy to share the grant money available if it meant that more young people could ‘Make a Move’.
