About Us
What We Do
Bellingen & Seaboard Youth Services is a non-profit service that aims to support and create positive outcomes for young people who live in the Bellingen, Kalang, Thora, Urunga, Repton, Mylestom areas of the Bellingen Shire.
Information, Referral and Advocacy
BSYS is able to help young people address issues important to them. BSYS can also provide information on:
- Drug and alcohol use and misuse
- Dealing with the police and legal rights
- Health incl. mental & sexual health
- Difficulties at home, with family or friends
- Education, training and employment
- Financial issues including Centrelink
If Youth Services cannot help we will know someone who can. If you need to talk to someone official and don’t feel confident we can speak on your behalf.

Service and Activities
BSYS aims to develop and provide services and activities for local young people.
Our Youth Worker is often out and about in the community, bringing the service to local young people. They visit Bellingen High School, the monthly markets, the Seaboard and places where young people hang out.

Some of our activities include:
- Provide Youth Week activities
- Run the Youth Bus
- Run workshops and trainings
- Run youth entertainment events such as band nights and movie marathons
Many of our activities have been the great ideas of local young people. If you have an idea for an activity or event or want to be involved in organising an acitivity, come and let us know.
Our Other Roles
Youth Action Policy Association
Peak body for all youth services in NSW. As a member BSYS receives regular news letters & campaign information.
Coffs Harbour Youth Network
A member of this network of mainly Coffs Harbour based youth services meeting once a month.
Bellingen Youth Health Committee
This committee meets montly to address youth health issues in the Bellingen area.
headspace Mid North Coast
BSYS actively supports this initiative which addresses mental health and drug and alcohol issues. A Bellingen ‘hub’ will be opening in the near future. Visit the headspace website.
Bellingen Shire Interagency
A member of this interagency where community groups and agencies servicing the Bellingen Shire meet.
Mid Coast Youth Workers Forum
A regional Youth Network for lobbying and support. BSYS attend the annual MYF conference which offers training opportunities and speakers.
Young Parent Network
BSYS is a partner in the management of the Young Parent Network which information, support and activities for young parents and parents-to-be in the Bellingen Shire. The project runs until May 2008.
Resources
BSYS has a variety of resources that can be used by young people, parents and community members. These include:
- Free condoms
- A phone
- A fax
- Internet facilities
- A huge number of pamphlets and booklets on a variety of topics
- A resource libary of books, videos and CD-ROMs located at Urunga Library
